About the job

The Quantum Software Team strives to enable researchers, engineers, and data scientists to efficiently and reliably solve computational problems with quantum algorithms. As a Quantum Software Engineer, you will design and build tools to help scientists and engineers develop, assess, and deploy quantum algorithms. This role is focused on the development of libraries for defining and managing computational workflows.

Although the work can be performed remotely from most locations, team members will be expected to be able to work with team members in U.S. Eastern or Central European time zones.


  • As part of a team, develop and maintain Python packages for managing computational workflows within Zapata’s Orquestra™ platform.
  • Identify, make, and document design decisions for such packages.
  • Support scientists and engineers who use the tools that you build.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to incorporate user feedback into features, fixes, and modifications.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus four years relevant work experience, or masters degree plus two years relevant work experience.
  • Experience designing an API for a library in a modern language such as Python.
  • Familiarity with a distributed computing tool such as Ray.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience developing or using Python-based workflow platforms or other ML Ops tools.
  • Experience with the full software development lifecycle, including designing, building, and iterating on a software project.
