About the Job:  

Zapata Computing seeks an outstanding expert in optimization to join our quantum research teamYou will push the frontier in quantum algorithms for optimization, while keeping up to date on state of the art in classical optimization. You will work closely with others on the Zapata research team as well as the professional services team to build and test optimization algorithms. These teams leverage our software platform Orquestra® to solve the most challenging computational problems and to develop the next generation of quantum algorithms. 



  • Researching quantum and classical algorithms for improving state of the art in optimization.
  • Conducting numerical simulations to benchmark algorithm performance.
  • Publishing papers and patents that drive toward quantum advantage. 
  • Collaborating with application scientists to bring your insights into professional service projects involving optimization.


Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:  

  • Familiarity with quantum algorithms for solving combinatorial optimization problems 
  • Proficiency with state of the art optimization software and techniques 
  • Experience programming with scientific software such as Python, C/C++, or Julia  
  • MSc. in a STEM field  


Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:  

  • Experience using software to deploy optimization algorithms (e.g. mixed integer programming, linear programming etc.) 
  • Programming experience with quantum software such as pyQuilCirqQiskit, Q#, etc. 
  • Ph.D. in in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
